March 8 is celebrated world wide as International Women’s day. A simple celebration that began in New York in 1909 was lifted into notoriety in 1917 when the women of St Petersburg marched with the demand of available bread, peace and the end to Czarism. This led to the Russian Revolution.
The celebration was mainly limited to communist countries until 1977 when the UN endorsed it to honor women and peace. ?It is still a national day of recognition, flowers and gifts for those special women in your life.
Today it is celebrated all around the world.
