On Saturday the 15th of February the Docklands Chamber of Commerce staged in the inaugural Docklands Business Awards. A full stark room at Marvel stadium greeted all entrants along with Councillors Beverly Pinder and Sue Riley, Deputy Lord Mayor Arron Wood and Lord Mayor Sally Capp. The night was a massive success with 8 individual category winners announced and two overall winners with Docklands Private Collection being the feel good story of the night.
Lyn and Peter Kelly of the Docklands Private Collection took up residence in The Arkley building on the 21st of December 2001. They were the first residents in Docklands, along with Lyn’s 90-year-old father Len Reddoch. At that time, there was nothing in Docklands – no shops, no restaurants, no attractions, and there were only two towers up and running in the area, far from the bustling business and residential hub that Docklands has since become. However, Lyn and Peter could clearly see the growing potential of the Docklands precinct, and have since worked hard to help establish Docklands as a destination worth visiting.
Following their move to Docklands, Lyn and Peter established Club NewQuay, a concierge business, with an office in Rakaia Way. Later, at the request of an investor, they started up their famous short stay apartments. In the November of 2005, that business was sold to the MAB Corporation, and became Grand Mercure Docklands.
In 2009, Lyn and Peter began their business once again, creating what is now known as the Docklands Private Collection in the Digital Harbour building. Beginning with three apartments, they have since expanded, with over 100 apartments based in and around the NewQuay area. With their clear dedication to the Docklands community and the quality of their accommodation, it’s no wonder that Lyn and Peter took home both Best Accommodation and Best Small Business at our inaugural Docklands Business Awards on Saturday night. Congratulations to the entire team at Docklands Private Collection, we commend you for all of your hard work throughout the years!
Additionally, the incredible Melbourne Star Observation Wheel was the lucky winner of both Best Attraction and Best Large Business at the Docklands Business Awards. We’re all exceedingly proud of the prosperity the Melbourne Star has brought to Docklands and its development into one of our top tourist attractions. Congratulations to everyone at Melbourne Star – we look forward to celebrating your continual success and hosting this new event annually to showcase Docklands best and brightest.
We will highlight the individual winners across our website and socials in the coming days.
