The official business launch for Docklands Dollars was held on Wednesday at Berth in New Quay, with many enthusiastic members in attendance, along with some special guests.

President of the Chamber Johanna Maxwell introduced the project to attendees, and expressed her joy at how Docklands Dollars will be able to assist Docklands in its recovery after the events of last year, sharing that the scheme has been in the works for around a year now, the idea having been produced just after the first lockdown announcement. Executive Officer Shane Wylie shared all the knowledge necessary for participation in the project, and offered a sneak peak of the Docklands Dollars website, created by the talented team at MoWorks, which will be officially launching on Monday the 29th of March.

It was also wonderful to have Lord Mayor Sally Capp, Councillor Jamal Hakim, and Niall Cunningham from Development Victoria in attendance. We especially loved to hear Mr Cunningham and the Lord Mayor speak about their passion for the Docklands precinct and their well wishes for our success! It’s great to know that we have such staunch supporters in the City of Melbourne and Development Victoria, and we’re very grateful for the financial support that they each put towards Docklands Dollars.

Additionally, we had a presentation from Colin Harrison from Skunkworks about The Last Post Project. This project invites musicians to join together on ANZAC Day 2021 to play The Last Post at dawn, and in Docklands we will have several players placed around the precinct to share in this special commemorative moment. If you would like to support one of the veterans charities aligned with this project as part of the overall contribution from Docklands, click here.

Finally, Michael Silver from Magnet Galleries at The District Docklands was proud to share that the 2021 World Press Photo Exhibition will be held at Magnet Galleries in September! This is a very prestigious photo prize, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate this incredible opportunity with Mr Silver and the team at Magnet Galleries.

Ultimately, it was a wonderful morning filled with hope for the future of Docklands, and we absolutely cannot wait to get started and watch our members reap the rewards of the Docklands Dollars project!
